Dr. Linda S Spedding
Founder of Balanced Lives

Linda is an international lawyer in the UK, USA and India. Dr Linda Spedding has become known for her more unorthodox lifestyle. Choosing environmental law at a time when it was not understood as a discipline Linda has written extensively in the area in order to reach the hearts and minds of core business lawyers and their clients. Her books and articles on environmental management, risk management, governance, ethical business practice and due diligence, environmental health and environmental law have been very well received. She is an author and editor of 17 published books.

As an “alternative lawyer” Linda has created a niche in international environmental law and standards, which embraces environmental health and other disciplines (see www.lindaspedding.org)  Along the way she has also prioritised the need for spiritual balance and has assisted a charity that has as its objectives the education and training of spiritual values and coexistence, yoga and responsibility for self. She has developed an approach to life that blends her professional, voluntary and personal responsibilities in a calm, assertive and contented manner that she believes to be valuable for today’s caring woman in the spirit of “practical spirituality”.
Throughout her professional life she has carried out pro bono work and serves as an officer on the board of relevant Foundations and Charities assisting women and children (referred to in more detail at www.womeninlawinternational.com). She has been - and is -  particularly inspired by the Vedic Sanatam Dharma Tradition and is committed to the dissemination of this Wisdom through all of her activities and particularly through her endeavours in assisting with  related publications and Retreats (www.adhyatmik.org). Dr Spedding  has developed a series of awareness raising publications for children and families in order  to highlight the importance of respecting our environment and planet (www.eeniemeeniebeeniebo.org) Most recently she is assisting with a key project that prioritises the preservation of the Ganga and Himalayan Region in India (www.savegangasavehimalaya.org).

Linda is convinced of the key positive role of women to create balance in today’s world. Linda now practices and trains in the above areas while looking after her family in a tranquil apartment overlooking the River.

The Seven Commandments of Wellbeing

Professor Dr. Svami Purna advises and recommends:
‘For good health and happiness and all round wellbeing one should follow a good balanced framework for life that includes:
1. Good food. (balanced and healthy sattvic nutrition);

2. Good sleep. (sound, deep, carefree and relaxed 6-8 hours sleep);

3. Good exercise. (walking, asanas, swimming and moderate physical activities);

4. Good mind. (positive approach towards life in thought and action including good deeds, voluntary work or seva without any condition, expectation or agenda, gain or reward);

5. Good meditation. (review, contemplation, gentle analysis, silence,  pranayama, positive sound and music,  focus of mind on nature including flowers and trees);

6. Good human interaction and relationships. (pleasant, positive gossip free interaction with family, friends, workplace associates and the outside world where interaction occurs with human beings, and responsibility for self - no blame or complain);

7. Good interaction with plants and animals. (recognising them as us with the same atma and force as they are also our life supports).
These are the simple Seven Commandments for a good life and lasting wellbeing and happiness.

Services
Workshops - Sessions - Trainings - Talks

Linda Spedding can introduce Workshops, Sessions, Trainings and Talks on Pranayama and Yoga with some explanation of Balance and the Yogic approach to life and attitude of mind and some mental exercises. Essentially Yoga is a way of life that integrates both the inner and outer self to enable a happy healthy life. This Sanskrit term has become a very familiar term in modern day parlance and means practice and discipline aimed at well being. Health is a very essential part of Yoga. A healthy body creates mental stability and facilitates meditation and true spiritual understanding. All are really interconnected.  Yoga is based on the word “yuj” meaning to yoke or join, fasten or harness (as in horses to a chariot); to concentrate the mind in order to obtain union with the Universal Spirit; to be absorbed in meditation. Many systems have evolved over time: the traditional one is that of Patanjali which focussed on “prana” meaning breath or life-giving energy which pervades the entire universe and all that is included in it from the amoeba to the human being.
It has been often mentioned that  many people who regard themselves - and are considered to be -successful in business or professional environments measure themselves on seven key elements that are referred to with the following headings (in no particular order): Health, Family, Social, Individual or Personal Financial, Business or Professional , Civic or Community and Spiritual. Their overall goal is to maintain a balance between these elements in order to  to live a healthy, contented and fulfilling life and to realise their potential and meaning. The practical integration of balance into daily life allows for the achievement of a happy, healthy life that supports the realisation of success in the world in a virtuous circle. All of this includes implicitly the core features of responsibility for self and self discipline, as well as self love or care or esteem.
